Emoti-con! 2012

On Saturday, June 1st, more than 100 tweens, teens and educators from across NYC gathered at Parsons The New School for Design for the 4th Annual Emoti-Con! NYC’s Youth Digital Media and Technology Festival. Throughout the day, youth showcased their digital creations, networked with their peers and industry professionals, competed for prizes, and engaged in a dialogue about the role of digital media and technology in their lives now and looking ahead to the future.     Ayah Bdeir, littleBits

    Ayah Bdeir is an engineer and an interactive artist, and the founder of littleBits.cc, an open source kit of electronic modules that snap together with magnets. Only 6 months after its creation, litteBits has been acquired by MoMA for the museum’s permanent collection, won best of ToyFair, been featured on TED, BBC, Forbes and Popular Science, and called by Bloomberg TV LEGO’s for the iPad generation Bdeir graduated with a Masters from the MIT Media Lab where she was a student in the Computing Culture Group. Prior to that, Bdeir studied Computer Engineering and Sociology in the American University of Beirut.

  • Naveen Selvadurai, 4Square

    Naveen Selvadurai, 4Square

    Naveen Selvadurai an Internet entrepreneur and co-founder of location-based social networking site Foursquare.com. He was born in Tamil Nadu, India. Naveen graduated with degrees from King’s College London in the UK and Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the US, and went to work with Lucent, Sony, Nokia and Sun Microsystems before co-founding his mobile social networking venture Foursquare. He has been on Fox Business Network, and CNN’s special by Fareed Zakaria, “Getting American Back to #1,” talking about how he became the person that he is today.

  • Jeffrey Yohalem, Ubisoft

    Jeffrey Yohalem, Ubisoft

    Jeffrey Yohalem is the lead writer of the upcoming Action/Adventure game Far Cry 3. Prior to that, he wrote Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, for which he won the Writers Guild Award. He has also worked as a writer/designer on Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed Revelations, a story designer on Rainbow Six Vegas 2, and directed a documentary film, Human Eaters. He graduated from Yale University Cum Laude with a distinction in English Literature.
